However, for the longest possible lifespan, we recommend avoiding prolonged contact with salt water or highly chlorinated water (e.g., in a pool). 925 silver (sterling silver) is not completely waterproof, but it is generally water-resistant. This means:
Clear water does not usually harm silver – occasional contact is unproblematic.
However , prolonged or frequent contact with water , especially chlorinated water (swimming pool) or salt water (sea) , can lead to oxidation (dark discoloration) or tarnishing.
Humidity + air + sulfur compounds (e.g. in the air or in cosmetics) also promote tarnishing.
